St. Mary of the Assumption in String Prairie was re-consecrated by the Bishop Joe Vasquez of the Diocese of Austin on December 14, 2019.
This date is a solemnity for St.Mary's.

The first mass in the newly renovated church will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, November 17th..
July 19th, 2019
The main altar has been delivered and installed. The pews are back in the church and work is underway to reupholster the old pews, and assemble the new pews.
April 8th, 2019
Work has started on the wooden floor.
April 4th, 2019
The interior painting is close to complete.
March 10th, 2019
The steeple has been restored to its original height with the raisiing of the roof. The exterior of the church os in its final stages, and he interior is in the process of being painted.
February 21st, 2019
Primer is applied to the exterior, the nave extension is getting its bead-board, and primer is applied.
January 10th, 2019
The extension is framed and sheathed, the new roof is on, and the power lines have been updated.
December 21st, 2018 - Roof trusses
The expansion is all framed in and the roof trusses for the barrel vault have been placed.
October 14th, 2018 - Crew starts on Monday
The demolition crew will arrive on Monday to start removal of old celulose wall coverings.
September 30th, 2018 - Renovation starts
Church renovation will start this week. The mass schedule has been updated. The Sunday mass will be said at Sacred Heart (at 10 am), and the Wednesday mass will be said at Sacred Heart at 7:30 pm.
September 16th, 2018 - Final approval extpected
The Bishop is expected to sign off on the project this week.
Expect news on when construction will start (after the bazaar on 9/30).
July 13th, 2018 - Plans Approved by the Diocese
The Diocese Building Committee approved the proposed plans for the St. Mary Church Renovation Project. This milestone allows the project to move forward. Th plans will be finalized by the architect Jackson-Galloway and provided to the engineers for specification. Once the engineering plans and specifications are complete, the project will be sent for bids. After the winning bid has been selected by the Diocese, the project loan will be made to St. Mary's by the Diocese.
The estimated construction start is in late August or early September and will complete in six to nine months. It is anticipated that masses normaly held at St. Mary's will be held at Sacred Heart during the construction period.
